One-year update
This blog post formally marks a year since CSAANZ was established. The inaugural meeting was held August 2019 in the cosy surrounds of the Fitzroy Surf Lifesaving Club (New Plymouth). Given that our committee members are spread all over the North and South Islands, the subsequent monthly meetings have all been held online, including the AGM. The Citizen Science Association of Aotearoa NZ (CSAANZ) was formalised in August 2019 and holds monthly online meetings for Co-chairs and Committee members. Establishing and sustaining a new association is challenging, so this month we reached out to colleagues from across the Tasman to benefit from their experience. New Plymouth kick-off meeting to establish the new national association: CSAANZ
A group of nearly 20 citizen science practitioners, researchers, educators, coordinators, developers, movers and shakers gathered on Aug 10 in New Plymouth to formalise the Citizen Science Association of Aotearoa New Zealand (CSAANZ, #CitSciNZ for short). A celebratory launch is planned for the near future. This blog forms part of an emerging kaupapa for the fledgling association: sharing information through transparent processes. Participants travelled from as far as Dunedin and Whangarei, contributing their expertise to shape the preliminary direction and structure of the new Association.
